Resident Evil 5 may get remastered on Xbox Series

Resident Evil 5, one of the classics of the franchise back in the Xbox 360 and PS3 era, has received a new ESRB rating (M for Mature 17+) for Xbox Series X/S. That means maybe an enhanced, a remastered, or a rereleased version is coming.

This follows a similar rating for Resident Evil 6, and fans are speculating that Capcom might be planning to remaster Resident Evil 5, which originally launched in 2009 and was later re-released in 2016 for newer consoles.

Resident Evil 5 was one hell of a confusing game for the franchise. Commercially, it was one of the top-selling titles, but gameplay-wise, you can already tell that the franchise was losing its horror roots and shifting to action instead.

RE5 was the start, and then Resident Evil 6 dropped and became the nail in the coffin until Resident Evil 7 pushed the envelope and returned to horror.

Capcom has remade a lot of its classic Resident Evil titles. First, it was Resident Evil 2 after the success of Resident Evil: Village. Then, Resident Evil 3 dropped, followed by Resident Evil 4 in 2023.

Earlier this year, we reported that Capcom may be relaunching several Resident Evil titles for current-gen consoles, as ESRB ratings confirmed.

These include Resident Evil 6, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, Resident Evil Origins Collection, and Resident Evil 4. These versions will be optimized for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and potentially the Nintendo Switch 2.
