A major cruise line is canceling all stops at a popular vacation spot until at least spring of 2026.
Royal Caribbean is suspending stops at its private beach and resort destination Labadee, Haiti, Travelpulse reported. Instead of stopping at the resort, ship itineraries are being change to Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos, Nassau, Bahamas, Falmouth, Jamaica, Grand Canton and Cozumel, Mexico, among other stops. Some cruises are replacing the Labadee visit with an extra day at sea.
“We have been monitoring the evolving situation in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and out of an abundance of caution, we’re cancelling our visit to Labadee,” a notice sent to travelers said, according to the report. “We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause—your safety is our top priority. We appreciate your understanding.”
The moratorium is in place until at least May 2026.
Haiti is located on the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic sharing the island to the east. Stops at the Dominican Republic will continue, the reports said.
Do not visit, State Department warns
Royal Caribbean stopped visits to Labadee last year due to escalating violence in Haiti.
Haiti is currently under a U.S. State Department Level 4: Do Not Travel warning, the only Caribbean island under that level. Previous warnings cited kidnapping, civil unrest, organized crime and sexual assault with an update issued on July 15 adding concerns over terrorism.
The State Department ordered nonemergency personnel to leave the country in July 2023. Haiti has been under a State of Emergency since March 2024 as violent gangs took over parts of the country, including the capital of Port-au-Prince. The U.S. is no longer allowing commercial flights into the capital.
