Sacramento State Hornets face Weber State Wildcats tonight with both teams holding 2-3 records.

OGDEN, Utah — The Sacramento State Hornets will travel to Ogden, Utah, to take on the Weber State Wildcats tonight at 5 p.m.

The Hornets haven’t played away from their home field since Sept. 6 at Nevada, following a stretch of three straight home games and their lone bye week of the season. Both teams enter the game with 2-3 overall records and 0-1 marks in Big Sky Conference play.

Game Preview

Sacramento State heads into tonight’s game with extra momentum on its side, thanks to a recent bye week that allowed the team to condition and practice more.

Rodney Hammond Jr. became the team’s second player this season to surpass 100 rushing yards, finishing with 105. With their bye week behind them, the Hornets now face seven consecutive conference games to close out the regular season.

Weber State began the season with consecutive road losses at James Madison and Arizona. Against FCS opponents, the Wildcats are 2-1, including a 42-41 win at McNeese, a 38-24 home victory over Butler, and a 34-12 defeat at UC Davis.

Saturday’s game will be Weber State’s second home game of the season. Quarterback Jackson Gilkey, a transfer from UTSA, has taken over as the team’s starter but is expected to miss this week’s game with a leg injury.

Gilkey has completed 59 of 115 passes for 693 yards, four touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He also ranks second on the team in rushing with 227 yards and one touchdown on 51 carries, trailing only Davion Godley, who has 361 rushing yards and three scores.

Sacramento State has passed the 1,000-yard mark on the ground this season during its game against Cal Poly, totaling 1,011 rushing yards and averaging 202.2 yards per game.

Running back Damian Henderson II leads the way, accounting for more than a third of the team’s rushing yards with 351 and tying for the team lead with four touchdowns.

Running back Rodney Hammond Jr. and quarterback Cardell Williams are the only other players to top 100 yards this season.

The remaining 249 rushing yards come from nine other players, each contributing at least one carry this year.

Brennan Marion calls his GoGo offense “basketball on grass,” with the quarterback acting as a point guard who distributes the ball and keeps teammates actively involved throughout the game.

This game will be a testament for the Hornets to see where they will stand after coming into the game looking to get their third win of the season.
